auto to manual...dont even bother, it takes a loooooong time, and alot of money (4k+) might as well sell your cougar and buy a stick shift.

Re: zetec vct problems

DropDatScort did the auto to manual swap on his Escort ZX2. Send him a PM. He can tell you what is involved.

Wow, you have an automatic Zetec Cougar? Did you know there are like, less than 500 of those in existence?

EDIT: or, it just occurred to me, you might have a Mystique, if I'm reading your screen name correctly.

Re: zetec vct problems

if you do vct delete youll need a chip or something to let the computer know its gone, if not i think the car may still run bad. im pretty sure youll get a check engine light too. a member here named ness swapped his vct head for a non vct head and had a little trouble with it running i think.

EDIT: here's where he said it was running bad. he used a focus head, but it will be pretty much the same as you trying to run your head without vct. post number 7 near the bottom of the paragraph.

FR Head is on

it could be. my timing belt didnt break, but the timing got off some how when i first got the car. the car wouldnt crank all the time and if it did it would idle at 500 rpms. sometimes it would hit 1000, but the minute i started moving it would drop down then finally die.

Re: zetec vct problems

unkmstq, Have you checked out TeamZX2.com? They have lots of information. I'm dang near positive that you don't need to have your computer reprogrammed if you do the VCT delete, but it will cause a CEL. (I used to own a ZX2 before I picked up my Cougar.)
