Hang on, hang on...do you have the 2.5L? You never did answer that question.

If it is the V6, a lag in acceleration around 3000 RPMs may be related to the IMRC. The IMRC usually opens around 3400 RPMs or so, but if it doesn't open the engine will choke. Furthermore, they frequently fail when they get hot (from the heat of the engine) but work fine when they are cool. It's pretty easy to check: drive around, get the engine hot, then park the car, open the hood, then rev up the engine and see if the secondaries open (watch the linkage under the throttle body).
