Re: The Undead Gateway Thread
Production
The film was originally titled The United States of Uhh-merica[citation needed]. Later it was referred to as 3001 (working title, dropped), and was shown to test audiences around March 2005, with unofficial reports of poor ratings from that screening.[citation needed] After some re-shooting in the summer of 2005, a test screening in August produced a report of a positive impression[1].

Release issues
In April 2006, a release date was finally set for September 1, 2006. In August, numerous articles [2] revealed that the film's release was to be put on hold indefinitely. The release occurred as scheduled, but to only 125 theaters, as opposed to a more usual wide release of 2500-3000. The film was first released only in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Toronto, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and Mike Judge's hometown, Austin.
According to the Austin American-Statesman [3], 20th Century Fox, the film's distributor, did nothing to promote the movie — while posters were released to theatres there were no trailers, television ads, or press kits for media outlets provided. This led to speculation that 20th Century Fox may have actively tried to keep the film from being seen by a large audience, while fulfilling a contractual obligation to release the film in theaters before releasing it on DVD. Due to Fox's reluctance to provide concrete information, various theories surfaced.[4] In a New York Times article Dan Mitchell argued that Fox might be shying away from a cautionary tale about low-intelligence dysgenics. [5] John Patterson of The Guardian suggests it is a result of the film's anti-corporate message, noting that in the film Starbucks now delivers handjobs, Fuddruckers' name gradually morphed into "Butt****ers," and the motto of Carl's Jr. has devolved to "**** You! I'm Eating!" [6] (A Carl's Jr. vending machine is depicted ripping off a customer.) The film also satirizes soft drink manufacturers, with the fictional company Brawndo in the film controlling large swaths of the U.S. government (to the detriment of mankind).
